Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

The Cat in the Hat came to our library today to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday. Clayton wanted to know where his fish friend was. We are frequent fliers at our library. It's so nice to read books for free! We usually leave with 2 huge bags full. One of our favorite things to do is to listen to books on tape in the car. It really helps to pass the time when we're going out of town.

Voddie Bauchum conference

We had a busy, but good weekend. The Maynors came and spent the night on Friday night. Marcy, Marc, Warren, and I went to a Voddie Bauchum conference. It was excellent! He's a brilliant man and we learned so much. The conference was on apologetics. We already knew that it is important to know why we believe what we believe and how to defend it, but we learned some important tools to use. We also learned what not to say to an atheist or nonbeliever. (There are some really stupid Christian cliche's out there in the Christian community.) We also were reminded how important it is to teach our children why we believe the Bible and how to defend that belief for themselves.
The statistics were grim. The Church is dying a slow death in America. Less than 10% of American Christians don't have a Biblical worldview. 51% of pastors don't have a Biblical worldview. 70-88% of Christians leave the faith by the end of their freshman year.
That is tragic! We need to know how reliable the Bible is! The resurrection of Christ is the most well-attested fact in ALL of history! There are over 6,000 ancient manuscripts or pieces of manuscripts from the Bible. There were as many as 614 people who saw Jesus after he rose from the dead, according to I Corinthians. A great quote from Dr. Bauchum is that..."The Bible is a reliable collection of historical documents written by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses, and they reported supernatural events that took place in fulfillment of specific prophecies." The Bible is NOT a book of nice stories!
There is a VAST amount of hard data that proves that the Bible is true. I want my children to know that so that they will possess the most important thing in life......a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. Everything else pales in comparison.

Father/ Daughter dance

Warren took Carrington to a dance that our homeschool group had tonight. I know that she had a blast. Warren had fun too, although he did not want to dance. I'm sure Carrington will have very good memories from tonight.

African warriors

We have been studying Africa for the past couple of weeks. One of the art projects was to do African face painting, so we decided to go all out. Clayton said that he wanted to be a Christian African warrior. I told him that he's a warrior for Jesus. :o) Clayton painted my face.

Tea Party

At the last minute, we had a tea party/lunch on Thursday. I have not had enough tea parties with my daughter. I have a little boy who doesn't want to be left out for one thing. I've always thought that little boys can't go to tea parties until I saw that a lady in my homeschool group has tea parties with her 2 sons. So I decided to have a tea party and told them to dress up. I'm so glad I did. They had a great time. Next time I'll try to make it more geared toward Clayton........maybe a cowboy theme or something.

King Tut

We went to see the King Tut exhibit on Saturday. We weren't allowed to take pictures of any of the items. It was so neat to see things that were several thousand years old, before the time of Christ! There was at least one item from the reign of Ramses (remember him from the story of Moses?). King Tut's body and caskets were not there. Warren was very disappointed. They showed pictures of his body. It was pretty gross.

Favorite verses

I have many favorite verses, but one of the many is this: Jeremiah 29: 11-13 "'For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. 'Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 'And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart." Isn't it amazing that the God of the universe who hung the stars will listen to us?
