Bringing Up Girls

This is a great book!  I love Dr. Dobson, but I was honestly expecting the information to be the same as what I've heard on Focus on the Family.  I have listened to Focus on the Family quite a bit over the years, and have read several of Dr. Dobson's books.  There is a lot of new material in the book.  I really like the chapter about the Purity Ball, and the story called, "The Charm Bracelet".  Have kleenex when you read the story.  For info on purity balls:  http://generationsoflight.myicontrol.com/  I also have to mention "Bringing Up Boys".  It is a MUST READ if you have a son.  Very helpful indeed!

The pictures below are some from our trip to Arkansas last week.  Warren had to go to Arkansas and we went with him.  There was a lot of driving involved, but it was a great trip and we were able to do some fun things with our kids.  I just wish we could have stayed gone longer!  I love to travel!  We spent one morning in Little Rock and went to the Museum of Discovery.  We had heard about it from watching the Duggar's tv show.  They went there and it looked like a lot of fun.  There were a lot of neat things to see.......a "tornado", a bug zoo with the biggest bugs I've ever seen, and a lot of other displays.  Carrington was disappointed that the neatest looking display they have was closed.  It's some kind of ball that when you touch it, your hair sticks up all over.
After Little Rock, we went to Memphis and did some sightseeing.  We ate at a restaurant called "Uncle Lou's" that was featured on the show Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.  It was very good and Uncle Lou is really nice, but the food is quite fattening......fried chicken, etc.  I had to swim laps when we got back to the hotel to ease my conscience!
I'll post more pics of our trip when I can.   My netbook computer has my pictures on it and it is giving me fits!  I hate technology!

A fun Science experiment.

We recently went blueberry picking with some friends.  Here are a few of the pictures.  I can't download pictures to my computer right now, hence the rare posts!  My husband downloaded these to his computer and e-mailed them to me.  It's definitely not all of the pictures I have taken lately, but it's most of what he downloaded for me.  Hopefully I can figure it all out soon!
Warren did a Science experiment with my kids the other day.  We are doing Apologia's "Exploring Creation With Astronomy".  The experiment was to make a rocket out of paper and put a film cannister inside it.  Then you put an Alkaselzer tablet and water in the cannister, put the lid on, and the chemical reaction of the Alkaselzer and water causes the rocket to shoot up in the air.  It worked ok at best.  Carrington decided to try it with baking soda and vinegar and we got a MUCH better reaction!  We nixed the paper rocket and just used the film cannister.  (You can only do this with the kind that has the lid that fits inside the cannister.)  She put the vinegar in first, maybe 1/3 full.  Then she added the baking soda, put the lid on very quickly, and put the cannister upside down.  The film cannister shot up into the air at least 10 feet.  It was a great experiment!  I highly recommend goggles just in case it hits you in the eye.  You can get free film cannisters at stores that develop film.  Happy experimenting!
