Apologetics

My husband and I were listening to a CD from Focus on the Family on Saturday.   We were driving to see my Mom who is still in a rehab center for physical therapy.  She is scheduled to go home on Thursday, and I'm so glad!  It is very sad to see my Mom and Dad separated for so long.  My Dad can't see to drive as well as he used to, so he can't go to see her.  (She's in another town.)
Back to the CD..........It was a talk by Josh McDowell that was very good.  He used to be an agnostic.  Now he's a well-known Christian, author, and speaker.  Here are some neat things he said.
There are 333 prophecies about Jesus in the Old Testament.
These prophecies were written at the VERY LEAST, 200 -500 years before Jesus was born.
Just a few of the prophecies were that:
The Messiah would be from the lineage of Shem.
The Messiah would be a descendant of Isaac.
The Messiah would be a descentant of Jacob.
The Messiah would be from the tribe of Judah.
The Messiah would be a descendant of Jessie, and from the house of David (King David).
That He would be crucified.  This prophecy was written 800 years before crucifixion ever took place.
The Messiah would come before the destruction of the temple, which occured in 70 A.D.
The chance of 1 man fulfilling 8 out of the 333 prophecies is 1 in 10 to the 17th power!!!!!!!!!!!
Compare this to covering the entire state of Texas in silver dollars 2 feet deep.  1 of these silver dollars would have a red check on it.  The chance of you finding that 1 silver dollar is the same chance that 1 man could fulfill 8 out of the 333 prophecies written about the Messiah in the Old Testament.  And yet...........Jesus Christ fulfilled all 333 of those prophecies.  Isn't that the coolest bit of information about Jesus?  I just LOVE apologetics!  We need to know why we believe what we believe.  Don't just be a Christian, because your Mama was a Christian.  There's so much more to Christianity that that!
